Murray State University President Ron Patterson announced he would be removing penalties for late timesheet and leave reporting.
In 2011 the University established late penalties for departments and employees who submitted late time and leave reports. Currently, departments can accrue fees up to $20 for each successive deadline timesheet and leave reports are left outstanding. Penalties increase for each consecutive report missed, leading to a loss of sick leave and paid travel expenses for late employees.
In an April 16 email to faculty and staff, Patterson announced he would be eliminating these penalties.
“After careful consideration, I have determined that the current penalty structure is administratively burdensome and does not effectively achieve its intended purpose,” Patterson said. “With the full support of my Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services, Dr. Laura Foltz, I am eliminating late penalties effective immediately.”
In his email Patterson still encourages employees to fill out time sheets on time to ensure hourly employees are paid and that the university continues meeting state and federal requirements.
