The Student Senate introduced and voted on two resolutions during Wednesday’s meeting.
Resolution 90-26-R2 was written by Tatiana Sperber, senator of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology, and proposes to have 24-hour library access during the entire semester. The resolution cites students with unorthodox schedules who are unable to find a space to study during open hours. It also expresses the need for students enrolled in academically intensive majors to have access to a study area, should they not be available anywhere else. Identification cards used by other universities for secure 24-hour access are referenced as a feasible solution instead of additional staffing. A surveillance system was also proposed to ensure the security of library property.
Following a vocal vote, Resolution 90-26-R2 was unanimously approved by the Student Senate. The resolution is planned to be presented to Murray State University administrators, library services and other relevant departments.
Resolution 90-26-R3 was written by Cesar Villeda, director of elections, ways and means. The document argues for the benefit of a concert during the 2026-2027 academic year sponsored by Student Government Association. To stress the importance of the project, the resolution affirms the importance of student involvement, along with SGA’s duty to serve the interests of students by organizing campus events. The logistics required for a concert are acknowledged, along with collaboration with University administration. No dates or cost estimates were outlined in the resolution.
Resolution 90-26-R3 was also passed in an unanimous vocal vote.
Ali Khatib, president of SGA, said the passing of these resolutions does not ensure that they will come into effect, only that SGA will spend further time drafting and proposing them to University administration.
