The Murray State women’s cross country team placed fourth and the men’s team placed ninth at the Angel Mounds Invitational in Evansville, Indiana.
Alyssa Moore, Breanna Day, Autumn Egleston, and Jocelyn Host placed in the top 30 on the 6K course at Angel Mounds State Park. There were 167 total contestants.
“Overall it was a great day for the women,” Head Coach Jordan Johnston said. “As a team finishing fourth, it shows how well we ran up front and we’re getting better. With eight PR’s on the day, we are headed in the right direction moving into The Valley Championship. Alyssa showed a great individual effort which landed her ninth on our all-time list in the 6K.”
Dylan Ellis and Gabe Russell secured 51st and 56th place finishes for the men’s team in a race of 235 competitors.
The men’s race was held on an 8K course.
“We’ve been looking for a closer spread from our number one to our number five runners and today we accomplished that,” Johnston said. “We posted four PR’s today and that led us to a very respectable ninth place finish in a tough field. Dylan Ellis really competed and only came up one second shy of his goal of being on our top ten all-time list.”
The Racers have their final competition at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship on Friday, Nov. 1 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The men and women’s teams will be competing at the Pheasant Ridge Golf course, hosted by UNI.
