The Murray State tennis team had an eventful weekend at the MVC Fall Individual Championships this weekend, bringing home several championships.
Senior Paola Campigotto played in her 6th MVC final within her three years in the league, where she was crowned as the new Singles Flight 4 Champion. She had a successful 3-peat where she placed first in singles and second in doubles during 2022 and first in both in 2023 and 2024.
The upperclassmen are not the only ones taking home a title, as sophomore Yuna Kadowaki won the MVC Singles Flight 5 Champion. The duo of Paola Campigotto & Varvara Alexeyeva secured the MVC #3 Doubles Flight Championship with a 8-6 win over Illinois State.
Campigotto has won five individual championships within the three years as a MVC conference player, with the 2022 Flight 2 Doubles Championship match ending her undefeated streak, and setting her at a 16-1 record.
Kadowaki recently won her first career MVC Championship in a Singles Flight 5 victory against Jankulovska of Illinois State.
“I am extremely proud of Yuna, Varya and Paola for their titles but even prouder of the team as a whole for supporting each other and never giving up,” Head coach Jorge Caetano said. “We definitely got better and grew a lot as a team this weekend.”
The Racers will head off Oct. 10-14th to play in the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
