Murray State closed several buildings after receiving an email indicating a bomb threat at a campus library at 12:56 p.m.
The University evacuated the following facilities, and advised in a campus-wide email that the public avoid these areas as they were swept by the ATF and local agencies:
- Pogue Library
- Waterfield Library
- Carr Hall
- Ruby Simpson
- New Fine Arts
- Old Fine Arts
- Applied Sciences Building
- Lowry Center

The email also said the Office of Homeland Security advised the threat was likely a hoax, as similar incidents involving university libraries occurred across the nation, including the University of Louisville.
The Louisville Cardinal reported UoL sent a RAVE alert saying authorities were responding to a safety concern, and evacuated the Ekstrom and Kornhauser libraries at 2:15 p.m. The Cardinal also reported library faculty said the police were investigating a bomb threat.
While Murray State and UoL were given the all clear by their respective law enforcement agencies around 3:30 p.m., saying no credible threat was found, at least eight universities and some public schools were targeted in these threats on Jan. 12.
- Suffolk University in Boston;
- University of Nebraska at Omaha;
- University of Nebraska Medical Center;
- Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis;
- Missouri Southern State University;
- Southeast Missouri State University;
- University of Louisville;
- Murray State University;
- And some Michigan public schools.
This is a developing story.
