Murray State and its regional campuses will be closed beginning Saturday until Tuesday, Jan. 24-27, in anticipation of an incoming winter storm.
Winter Storm Fern, as named by The Weather Channel, is reported to slam two-thirds of the United States, and the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center warns that snowfall totals could exceed 12 inches with temperatures as low as 10 degrees. The NWS also said travel will be disrupted.
The NWS said this forecast has uncertainty, and preparations should be “completed as soon as possible” as the region remains under a winter storm warning,
Gov. Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency for Kentucky on Jan. 23.
“This is a serious storm that will likely cause dangerous conditions on our roads and potential power outages, which is why we are doing everything we can to keep Kentuckians safe,” Beshear said. “We ask that everyone does what they can to prepare now. Run any necessary errands before the storm, avoid traveling while conditions are dangerous, and have weather alerts turned on to stay informed.”
The Calloway County, KY E-911 Communications Center posted on Facebook, informing the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6291 building will act as a warming shelter at 926 S 12th St, beginning Friday evening, Jan. 23.
