SGA’s Student Senate passed two new amendments to Article II of their constitution on Oct. 29. Both were accepted with two motions to pass and a verbal vote.
Bill 90-25-B2 deals chiefly with the requirements to serve as president, executive vice president, vice president of administration and the vice president of finance. According to the document, the reasoning behind this revision is to “ensure the Executive Team understands the fiduciary duties of their role as an officer.”
“The vice president of administration and vice president of finance will have to have served in some branch of SGA for a semester,” SGA executive Vice President Brooklyn Williams said, “and the president and executive vice president will have to have served in student government for a year.”
Bill 90-25-B3 alters the four executive positions of SGA by having the vice president of administration subsume the responsibilities of finance, combining both roles. Additionally, a new position will be created in its stead, the vice president of student connections. The bill outlines this officer’s role to act as a liaison between student organizations and government. They must also have served in SGA for one semester.
Student Activities Coordinator Kade Gambill emphasized that the passing of these bills in the Student Senate is not final, and will proceed to the Student Body in November. If passed, they will be received by the Board of Regents and be subject to another vote.
