Homecoming Week will begin on Oct. 27, and will feature several events throughout its duration. The ballots for Homecoming king and queen will also be opened on MyGate that Monday, extending until midnight Tuesday.
Ten candidates make up this year’s Homecoming Court with five each running for their respective positions. Emily Warren, Karrington Edwards, Janie Pagel, Haliyah Martin and Maggie White will be featured on the poll for Homecoming queen. Jawaun Northington, Timothy Melton, Karsen Starks, Levi Lucas and Jared Juenger will be competing for Homecoming king.
Candidate Karsen Starks gave his thoughts regarding the coming celebrations.
“As a Murray native candidate running for Homecoming king, Murray State’s Homecoming has always been a highlight each year growing up in Murray,” Starks said. “Tent City is by far my favorite part. I love how it’s a massive reunion where I reconnect with childhood friends and alumni from my Greek organization, Pi Kappa Alpha. Being a part of that community makes me prouder than ever to call Murray State home.”
Brooklyn Williams, SGA executive vice president, has announced the Campus Activities Board sponsored events that will be held during the week. A movie-themed popcorn bar will be held Tuesday that will also give out complimentary cookies. On Wednesday, 250 Chick-fil-A sandwiches will be given away as a part of a Spirit Day celebration. Blankets and buttons will be given out Thursday using CAB’s button-maker.
In addition, an event supporting scholarships for students studying fine arts will be held in Lovett Auditorium at 5:00 p.m. that same day. The occasion will feature various student performances, a dinner served with cocktails and an auction.
“A lot of people from Homecoming Court will be tabling that week,” Williams said. “So that’s going to be a really fun week and hopefully you all are going to have a great time as well.”
Friday has been reserved for prospective alumni reunions, which will likely be held in the Sid Easley Alumni Center. Saturday will feature the pinnacle of celebrations, with Homecoming Parade beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Main Street. Tent City will run from noon to 4:00 p.m. in Stewart Stadium, playing live music in tents held inside. Tent City’s conclusion will kick off the Racers’ match against Southern Illinois University’s football team, where Homecoming king and queen will be inducted.
