On Saturday, the Racers faced off against the number one ranked Bison from North Dakota State. While the Racers showed some resiliency with two blocked punts, the Bison offence was too much of an unstoppable force, scoring eight touchdowns and ultimately beating the Racers 59-6.
Murray State honored two distinguished alumni during Saturday’s game, Austen Lane and Ivan Roe.
Austen Lane is a former Racer football player who was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL draft. After hanging up his cleats and retiring from the NFL, Lane made his professional MMA debut in 2017. Since then, he has gone on to have a record of 13-5-1, winning his most recent fight against Robelis Despaigne on October 19, via unanimous decision. His jersey number – 97, was retired during the game.
Ivan Roe is a Racer rifle alum and Olympian. During his time at Murray State, Roe was named a seven time All-American, and was a member of three OVC championship teams. After graduating in 2019, Roe joined the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit as a shooter/instructor. Roe competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics in both air and smallbore rifle where he placed 34th and 20th, respectively.
