Springer-Franklin’s intramural softball team took down Alpha Gamma Delta in the championship game Thursday night, claiming the victory at 3-1.
Going into the intramural softball championship game #2 seed, Springer/Franklin college and #1 seed, Alpha Gamma Delta, were both 3-2.
Springer-Franklin’s path to the ‘ship included defeating Clark College, Hart College and Alpha Omicron Pi. Alpha Gamma Delta, on the other hand, had to get by Delta Zeta, Regents College, and Kappa Delta.
In the beginning of the game, Springer-Franklin came out strong with Majestee Hughes, Alaina Schmitt and Mackenzie Ferriell each scoring a run in the top of the first inning.
After the first inning, both teams remained scoreless going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That was until AGD’s Bailey Winters was able to provide them some hope after hitting a double to put her in scoring position.
AGD’s Abbey Coffey was able to make a solid connection with the bat to advance Winters to third. Following the advancement, AGD’s Rachel Gardner hit a pop fly to left field. Despite the Gardner’s hit being caught, Winter’s smart base running skills allowed her to tag up on third to run across and claim AGD’s only point of the game.
Ferriell after the game discussed the season Springer-Franklin had and her love for her team.
“Overall, our season went really well,” said Ferriell, “We had a rough start with a loss to Regents, but we came together as a team and began to play a lot better, especially defensively. I’m super happy we won, but the best part of the season was honestly playing with the SF girls again.”
Schmitt expressed her favorite part of the season concluding their victory.
“My favorite part of the season were my teammates. I really enjoyed making new friends with everyone on my team because they are such great people.”
