On Thursday, Feb. 26, the Murray State women’s basketball team knew they’d finish the season with a share of the Missouri Valley Conference regular season championship. On Saturday, Feb. 28, they took the whole thing.
In the last Murray State basketball game played before the CFSB Center renovations begin, the Racers hosted the Evansville Purple Aces. Being that it was the last game, the team and fans also honored the program’s seniors.
Both teams traded baskets early, and Evansville jumped out to the largest lead in the first half, taking a 7-point lead with 3:11 remaining in the first quarter. Despite their efforts, Murray State was down 44-43 going into halftime.
The second half started with more of the same, both teams trading baskets and the lead. Ultimately, a layup by junior forward Keslyn Secrist with 6:29 left in the third quarter gave Murray State a 53-52 lead and they never surrendered it. The Racers outscored the Purple Aces 56-36 in the second half to win the game.
Murray State defeated Evansville 99-80 and set the program record for wins with their 26th of the season. Junior guard Halli Poock led the Racers with 27 points while shooting 56.5% from the field. Junior forward Sharnecce Currie-Jelks finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds for her 22nd double-double of the season, which leads the nation. Junior guard Haven Ford was the third Racer in double figures, notching 23 points and adding six assists to her stat line. Secrist finished the game with 14 points and seven rebounds. The lone senior on the roster, guard Briley Pena, finished with eight points.
With the win, Murray State secured the No.1 seed in the MVC championship tournament. The Racers went undefeated in home games during the 2025-26 campaign, the first time they’ve accomplished that feat since the 2008-2009 season.
The Racers have two more games this season: first at UIC at 7 p.m. on March 5, and the regular-season finale at Valparaiso on March 7.
