Looking to pick up their third win coming off of a four game losing streak, the Murray State men’s basketball team took on the University of Northern Iowa Panthers on Monday, Feb. 9, and walked away with the largest home loss in program history, 89-60.
The Racers started off slow, with their closest margin being a 7-7 tie with 16:04 remaining in the first half. From that point on, UNI lead the game and never gave it up.
“UNI out toughed us, out matched us, out physical-ed us. Won every point of attack every which way possible,” said Head Coach Ryan Miller in the postgame press conference. “The game was called very physical and we just submitted to the physicality.”
Disappointed by the team’s performance but still unfazed by the loss, Coach Miller says he is not concerned with the teams preparedness for the rest of the season. The focus for the team now is bouncing back and finishing the season strong.
“Its part of basketball,” Miller said. “The whole key to it is to be able to recover from it.”
The Racers are now looking to their next matchup against Indiana State on Thursday, Feb. 12, hoping to bounce back and pick up their 11th conference win.
