The Board of Regents held a special meeting on September 19, where the Assisted Care Rehabilitation Classroom located in Jackson Hall was officially named in honor of Michael Muscarella.
Tina Bernot, assistant vice president of advancement, gave a presentation to propose the honoring of Muscarella.
“He has consistently advocated for the University in professional and community settings, encouraging young individuals to consider Murray State’s programs for their academic and career aspirations,” Bernot said. “For faculty support and collaboration, he has helped tremendously through offering guest lectures, facilitating political partnerships or sharing insights from his extensive professional experience.”
Bernard also said the honoring of Muscarella would uphold Murray’s commitment to recognizing those who are devoted to the University’s mission.
“It would further inspire current and future students by highlighting a role model who embodies the values of service, education, and excellence,” Bernard said.
During the motion of the proposal Tom Waldrop, chair of Graves County Democratic Executive Committee, spoke in support of the decision.
“I can’t think of nothing better to commemorate the … decades of service that (Muscarella) has performed on a volunteer basis all across the west Kentucky than to name a site that’s going to educate young people after him,” Waldrop said.
The board applauded after the naming proposal was approved.
