The Murray Pride festival kicks off tonight at 6 p.m., Corvette Lanes will host a family bowling night at 1415 Main St.
The festivities will resume Saturday at 10:30 a.m. when Pride March participants will walk from Roy Stewart Stadium to The Grove of Murray.
The Grove of Murray will host the remainder of the weekend’s events. The vendor’s market will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. In past years, the vendors market has included tables for local independent craftspersons and organizations like Planned Parenthood.
A range of speakers and entertainment will be featured throughout the day, starting with a fire performer from 11 a.m. to noon. Other performances include poetry readings from Charley Allen-Dunn and Joia Pool, live music by Damon Brazzell and an act by Paducah Improv. Between entertainment acts, speakers from West KY Now and the Mayfield-Graves County chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) have information to share about their organizations. Lauren Hines, candidate for Kentucky State Representative for District 5, will be speaking at 1:30 p.m.
The festival will end with the Pride Drag Show with live entertainment from local drag queens. The doors will open at 7 p.m., and the show will begin at 8 p.m. You must be over 18 to attend.
Guinevere Hester, senior wildlife and conservation biology major and vice president of Alliance, said they are excited for the drag show and the vendors market.
“I am really into seeing the vendors and shopping,” Hester said. “It’s good to see the businesses that have tables. Even if it is performative allyship, it does show that they’re willing to make some sort of effort.”
The Grove of Murray is located at 1300 N. 16th St.
