While the weather continues to fluctuate and classes kick into gear, sometimes being stuck on campus can be somewhat underwhelming. Below is a list of five things you can do to shake some of the campus lag and enjoy a weekend of entertainment and relaxation.
1. Try (not to fall while) ice skating
When it comes to one of the most iconic winter activities, ice skating is a given. Located in Clarksville, Tennessee, the Ford Ice Center is not only close in proximity but reasonably priced, with admission costing under $20. From figure skating to hockey, the Ford Ice Center offers access to both icy activities. Live out your ice skating dream in this safe environment.
2. Attend a University basketball game
If traveling is not an option and you need something on campus, consider attending one of the many home basketball games. With a student section and free student admission (with your student ID), the time to support some of Murray State’s student-athletes is now. Don’t forget to take a photo with Dunker while you’re there.
3. Get lost on a winter hike
There has never been a better time to venture around Lake Barkley. If you’ve been wanting to give hiking or camping a try, now is the time. Land Between the Lakes offers just about everything nature-oriented, so pick a weekend and take the quick drive over to one of the many inspiring spots in the Land Between the Lakes.
4. Find something new while antiquing
There are hundreds of antique shops in and around Murray. From the Peddler’s Mall to The Hitching Post in Aurora, Kentucky, there are so many thrift stores that you can check out, and who knows, maybe you will find that one oddly specific thing you’ve been looking for. You never know what you might find until you give antiquing a try.
5. A day in Nashville
Two hours away from campus, the big city of Nashville, Tennessee, awaits. Nashville offers thousands of things to do, from museums centered on country music to hundreds of delicious restaurants and bars; there is always something to do in Nashville. Plan an amazing day out with a bunch of friends and take the city by storm; just remember to come back to Murray when you’re all Tennessee’d out.
