The Murray State soccer team returned home on Sunday, Sept. 26, where the Racers dropped their record to 5-4 against the University of Cincinnati.

The Bearcats were the first to strike, finding the back of the net in the 34th minute of the first half, ending with a 1-0 advantage.

Murray State sophomore forward Chloe Barnthouse evened the score in the 40th minute of the second half, ending regulation time 1-1 and sending the game into overtime.

The teams played 10 minutes of overtime, but neither team was able to put the ball in the net, causing a second overtime.

After eight minutes of the second overtime, Cincinnati was able to score, taking the game 2-1.

Despite the Bearcats outshooting the Racers 10-9, the Racers finished with seven shots on goal versus six from the Bearcats. However, Cincinnati finished with 13 corner kicks compared to Murray State’s five corner kicks.

Graduate forward Rebecca Kubin finished with four shots while Barnthouse counted two. Junior goalkeeper Jenna Villacres finished with four saves.

The Racers will compete in their first conference match of the season against Southeast Missouri State University on Thursday, Sept. 30, at Cutchin Field.
