In their last home game of the season, the Racers made a second-half comeback from a 1-0 deficit to take a hard-fought 3-2 win over the Evansville Aces.
Although the Aces made an early goal in the first half, the Racers rallied in the second half to create winning shots on their senior night. Senior Mary Hardy scored two goals within three minutes of each other, gaining immediate momentum for the home team. Hardy’s first goal was assisted by freshman Katie Donoghue and her second was a header from freshman Ava Wilson’s corner kick.
This was Hardy’s first multi-score game of her four-season tenure with the Racers and her fourth goal of the season. Hardy and sophomore Breece Bass are now tied as the Racers’ leading season scorers with four goals each.
Wilson finalized the Racers’ win with her first collegiate career goal off an assist from Bass, making her the 10th Racer to score this season.
The Racers outshot their opponent 23-9, with Hardy and Donoghue taking four each.
The Racers have three games left in conference play before the Missouri Valley Conference tournament on Nov. 2-9. The first of the three-game road journey is at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, at UIC.
