As universities begin welcoming students back, there are several new guiding principles that must be followed.
Murray State has set 12 guidelines for the 2020-21 academic year. The guidelines consist of different rules for students, faculty and staff to follow a healthy lifestyle. More information about the restart guiding principles for the University can be found here.
“These guiding principles will promote a healthy lifestyle as well as keep individuals responsible for their health,” according to the Racer Restart Initiative.
One of the guidelines for the upcoming semester requires students, faculty and staff to wear masks around campus.
“Racer Safe and Healthy kits, which will include a thermometer, face masks, hand sanitizer and other items deemed essential by state and federal guidance, will be distributed to all faculty, staff and students at the beginning of fall 2020,” according to the Racer Restart plan.
There are three phases in the reopening process. Phase one took place on June 1 with planning and preparation.
The second phase happened on July 6, 2020 and that began the implementation. This phase allowed faculty and staff to return to campus.
The final phase is currently set to begin on Aug. 1, 2020. Campus will remain closed to the public through July 31. In this phase, students will be allowed to visit campus.
Additionally, the Racer Restart Initiative states, “If the COVID-19 spread continues to decrease and a vaccination is developed, restrictions will be relaxed in a cautious and safe manner.”
Students are also required to complete a training module through Canvas before August 17.
