The Murray State football team (0-9) fell 27-7 to the No. 16 Southern Illinois Salukis in the Homecoming game at Roy Stewart Stadium after only being down 10 points at halftime.
After scoring a touchdown in the first minute of the first quarter, the Salukis placed another field goal and touchdown pair in the second quarter to put the Racers down 17-0. A five-yard pass from redshirt freshman Jim Ogle to graduate student J’Kalon Carter brought the Racers to a competitive 17-7 to finish the half.
The Salukis kicked another field goal 8:55 into the third quarter and solidified their 27-7 victory over the Racers with a 40-yard touchdown 34 seconds into the final quarter.
Junior Dylan Rowsey had 15 tackles in the game, making it his seventh game this season with 10 or more tackles. Rowsey leads the Missouri Valley Conference in tackles with 111, averaging to 12.33 per game.
The Racers travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to play Northern Iowa at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8.
