Murray State soccer finished their regular season with a trip to UNI and Drake, looking to sneak into the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.
Oct. 24 @ UNI
The Racers lost the penultimate match of their season to the University of Northern Iowa Panthers on Thursday, Oct. 24.
After almost seventy scoreless minutes, the game went into a weather delay due to lightning. Murray State junior forward Mary Hardy broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute as play resumed after an assist by graduate midfielder Morgan Parker to give the Racers a 1-0 lead with almost seventeen minutes left to play.
The Panthers tied the game up in the 82nd minute after a foul in their penalty box led to a goal by senior forward Lauren Heinsch. Northern Iowa then scored another goal in the 85th minute to take the lead with just under five minutes left in regulation.
UNI scored once more in the 89th minute to put the game away, as they won the matchup 3-1 over Murray State.
Hardy scored the Racers’ only goal off of two total shots taken, her sixth of the season. Parker earned the team’s only assist, her first of the year. Sophomore goalkeeper Griselda Revolorio started all 90 minutes for the Racers and saved four shot attempts. Murray State attempted 11 total shots, with six of them being on goal.
Oct. 27 @ Drake
Murray State faced off against the Drake University Bulldogs in the Racers’ season finale on Sunday, Oct. 27 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Junior midfielder Mary Hardy scored her seventh goal of the season in the 13th minute after a pass into the box by sophomore defender Kate Stordy. Drake’s junior forward Layla Kelbel evened things at one apiece after an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute of the match.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net for the remainder of the match, resulting in a 1-1 draw. Both teams attempted 8 total shots in the matchup, as they both had three of those shots on goal. Murray State had eight corner kicks to Drake’s five. Drake committed 14 fouls to Murray State’s nine.
Hardy scored the Racers’ lone goal of the match. She attempted two total shots, one of them on goal. Stordy added a shot attempt to go along with her assist. Graduate midfielder Morgan Parker and sophomore forward Ava Robertson both put a shot on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Griselda Revolorio earned two saves in 90 minutes played.
The results put the Racers at 5-8-5 overall and 1-5-4 against conference opponents. With that conference record, Murray State has ended the regular season in 10th place and is ineligible for the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.
This season marks the first time the Racers missed out on the MVC tournament since joining the conference in 2022. The Racers will now turn to the offseason to prepare for the 2025 season, which will start in August.
