The Racers looked to carry the momentum they gained after winning their last event, as they competed from Sunday, Oct. 20 through Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate at Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, North Carolina.
The Racers finished rounds one and two with a score of 288 in each, but things took a turn as they finished the third and final round with a score of 297 to drop them from fourth place on Monday to ninth place as the event came to an end on Tuesday.
Sophomore Lennon Albans and senior Jay Nimmo finished with scores of 215 to tie them for 18th place. Senior Kamaren Cunningham finished with a score of 216 to tie for 22nd place, as redshirt sophomore Rocco Zakutney scored 227 to tie for 53rd and redshirt freshman Trey Wall scored 243 to tie for 68th.
The end of the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate also marks the end of the fall portion of the schedule for Murray State. The Racers finished top five twice in their five events played so far, with “The Buddy” being their only event win.
Murray State will now look onto the spring portion of the schedule, as things will pick back up on Saturday, Feb. 8, where the Racers will compete in the Battle of the Border Match Play at Hopkinsville Country Club in Hopkinsville, Kentucky against Austin Peay.
The Racers’ first spring event will be at the Gulf Coast Collegiate on Monday, Feb. 24 and Tuesday, Feb. 25 at English Turn Country Club in New Orleans, Louisiana. Murray State will have five spring events before the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, hosted from Sunday, April 20 through Tuesday, April 22 in Des Moines, Iowa.
