The Murray State Board of Regents will begin the search for the 15th president after president Bob Jackson announced on Monday his retirement next summer.
Jackson read from a letter at the meeting.
“The work and accomplishments of the past several years could not have been achieved without a great team,” Jackson said. “We are very fortunate to have outstanding administrators, faculty, staff, students, Board members, alumni, and friends who ensure we continue to advance this great University.”
The board amended Jackson’s contract to end his presidency on June 30, 2025 and have him serve in an advisory position until Oct. 31, 2025. The contract was also amended to give Jackson the title of president emeritus which he plans to use to help future recruiting endeavors for the University.
The board voted to use Academic Search Inc., a search firm from Washington, D.C.
A special committee was assigned to oversee the selection of a new president with its members being Robbie Fitch, Virginia Gray, Branden Hawkins, David Mienschein, G.L. Ovey, Jr., Matthew Price, Emily Roark, Melony Shemberger, Tom Waldrop, David Wilson, Roslyn White, Daniel Wann and Katelyn Young. Robert Miller, Courtney Hixon, and Jill Hunt will also serve on this committee as ex-officio members.
