Austin Peay dominates tennis to end regular season

The Murray State women’s tennis team took a hard fall against Austin Peay on Friday, April 16, as they lost 6-1 to the Governors. 

In doubles, senior Sara Loncarevic and freshman Sarah Bureau fell off their game as they lost 2-6 to their opponents. Senior Stasya Sharapova and sophomore Marit Kreugel could not keep up with their competition and lost 6-1. Senior Anja Loncarevic and freshman Gabrielle Geolier did not complete their match as their opponent was up by five when the other two doubles matches ended. 

The singles matches began to pick up for the Racers as Sara Loncarevic won her match (6-2,6-3). Sharapova did not win her match during the second round with scores of 3-6,1-6 on court two.

Bureau completed three rounds against her opponent with scores of 6-2, 2-6, 3-6 but lost as she struggled in the last two rounds.

Kreugel lost on scores of (1-6, 5-7) for a close match during the second round. Meanwhile, Anja Loncarevic took a hard loss with two set scores of 2-6. Geolier competed three rounds with her opponent with losing scores of  6-3, 0-6, 1-6 on court six.

The Murray State women’s tennis team will compete on Saturday, April 24, to start the OVC Tournament in Evansville, Indiana.
