A bus carrying the Murray State women’s track team overturned on the interstate Friday morning on its way to the Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Ind.
The team was traveling on I-69 near Evansville when the bus flipped over.
Early reports indicated there may have been multiple injuries, however Sports Information at Murray State has confirmed two members of the team were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
The University sent another bus to pick up the remaining team members and bring them to the track meet.
Indiana State Police have reported that the bus encountered slippery winter weather conditions that caused the vehicle to overturn.
“My first concern is for the student-athletes and coaches involved,” Director of Athletics Allen Ward said. “I’m pleased to learn that no serious injuries occurred as a result of this accident. We are diligently working to notify the parents of the student-athletes to provide them with the information that we know at this time.”
It is anticipated that the women’s track team will participate in the meet as planned.
