Murray State University will not receive funding cuts in the proposed two-year state budget forwarded to Gov. Andy Beshear, according to a campus email from Murray State President Ron Patterson on Friday.
“We appreciate the continued advocacy and commitment of our state leaders on behalf of Murray State University,” Patterson said. “We will continue to monitor the budget process and provide updates as the Legislative Session moves forward.”
The two-year state budget kept funding flat for Murray State, Morehead State and Kentucky State universities; however, the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville will receive cuts.
The Kentucky Kernel reports the University of Kentucky will receive a 2-3% cut in funds, and UK President Eli Capilouto said this would be a $6 million loss in the 2026-2027 year, which would culminate to $11 million the next.
The University of Louisville will lose $2.59 million and then $5.04 million, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader. UoL President Gerry Bradley said this cut will be a “substantial challenge” to the university’s operations.
