Green Bandana, a mental health organization seeing its second semester at Murray State, held a certification lecture led by Ambassador Letitisha Usher and welcomed more than two dozen new members in Faculty Hall room 208.
The lecture was part of Green Bandana’s mission for members, donning a green bandana on their person, to create a welcoming and safe environment for those struggling with the weight of issues they may be facing.
Members of the organization wearing their bandanas, would signify to anyone, they are someone who can be spoken to and listen without judgement.
“If we’re gonna listen to someone, we really kind of almost need to make ourselves a blank slate like a very neutral person, so that we’re not bringing our bias or judgment when we’re talking to somebody,” Usher said at the lecture. “It could be about family cultural differences. Do you think that cultural differences between a family that lives in San Diego, California might be a little different than the ones that live in Pikeville, Kentucky? Absolutely.”
Usher also said Murray State has free mental health services for the campus community and urges new members to take advantage of it — and for people they may helping.
A sheet of these services are included with the certification, and a copy can be found on the Murray State News website with this story.
