Murray State women’s golf team placed second on Tuesday in the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Georgia.

The Racers shot a first round score of 302, earning them second place, just three shots off from leader Jacksonville University.

Senior Anna Moore, from Hopkinsville, Kentucky, led the way for Murray State on day one, scoring a 74 and placing third. Following Moore with a score of 75 was senior Moa Folke, from Tranas, Sweden, ending her first round in ninth place.

On day two the Racers carded 295 as a team, staying consistent on the leaderboard but falling an additional shot off of the lead. Jacksonville scored a second round 295 and led the Racers by four shots going into day three.

Junior Linette Holmslykke, from Vejle, Denmark, made big moves for the Racers in the second round scoring a 2-under-par round, moving up from 14th-place into third.

The Racers fell back a few steps on day three, scoring a 302 and securing second place just 12 shots behind tournament-winner Jacksonville University.

Sophomore Lucila Puente Rodriguez de Austria, from Sevilla, Spain, shot a team-low 70 on day three, giving her a share of fifth place alongside Holmslykke. Folke finished in 17th-place after shooting a third round 81.

Head Coach Velvet Milkman appreciated team’s effort despite the shortcomings in round three.

“I was pleased with about all that we did, especially the birdies made,”Milkman said.

Milkman is eagerly anticipating next weekend’s Jan Weaver Invitational at home.

“What I would really like to address next week is getting off to a better start,” Milkman said. “I think if we can get off to a little bit better start that will help us in the long run.”

Murray State will take a weekend off before hosting their own tournament, the Jan Weaver Invitational at Miller Memorial Golf Club in Murray, Kentucky on April 6.
