Racer rifle completed the fall portion of the 2020-21 season with a win against Jacksonville State on Sunday, Nov. 25.

The last time the Racers faced the Gamecocks was on Saturday, Nov. 7, when the Racers won by a 60-point margin. The Gamecocks gave the Racers a harder time on Sunday, and the final score showed the Racers on top 4673-4644.

Freshman Mattias Kiuru led with his best foot forward, setting a season high 587 in smallbore. Mattias shot 588 in air rifle, several points under his 593.6 average in that category. Still, Kiuru finished first with an aggregate score of 1175, nine points ahead of the second place shooter.

Freshman Allison Henry stayed strong for the Racers and placed third overall. After coming off a career-highlight match in the University of Kentucky’s annual Long Rifle Match, in which Henry scored season highs in all three scoring categories, Henry shot a respectable 1165 against Jacksonville on a 576 smallbore score and a 589 in air rifle.

Senior Dana Buesseler placed fourth overall with a 1163 aggregate score, just 1.2 points higher than her aggregate average up to this point in the season. Buesseler also scored several points higher than her smallbore average with a 578 on Sunday, but her 585 in air rifle was just under a point of her average in that category.

Freshman Kylie Delaney contributed an 1162 aggregate to the Racers’ total and placed fifth overall. Delaney’s smallbore score of 579 was 5.6 higher than her season average up to the Long Rifle Match, but her air rifle score was 1.6 points lower than her average of 584.6

The Racers ended the fall portion of their season with a 6-1 overall record. The Racers will spend Winter Break preparing to take on Ohio State at the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range on Saturday, Jan. 16.
