Head Coach Rechelle Turner continued to add reinforcements to her 2020-21 recruiting class when she announced the signing of Lucia Operto of the Argentina U19 Women’s National Basketball team.

Turner is confident in the addition of the 6-3 post to the current Murray State women’s basketball roster.

“Lucia is a physical post presence,” Turner said. “Adding size, strength, and talent to our front court rotation.”

Operto has a plethora of experience on the court, having competed in two Basketball World Cups for Argentina in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

In her earlier years on the court, Operto provided a double-digit scoring average along with solid rebounding for three championship teams from 2015-2017. Currently, Operto plays for Club Atletico Lanus. Operto finished last season with CA Lanus averaging 17.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest.

Turner believed Operto’s experience overseas will be valuable not only to Operto but also the Racers as a whole going forward.

“She has gained valuable experience as a member of Argentina’s national team,” Turner said. “That high level of competition should aid her transition to the Division I level as she arrives at Murray State. We are excited to welcome Lucia to the Racer family.

With Operto’s addition, Turner has now inked seven players for the 2020-21 signing class.
