Murray State’s men’s golf team finished in 13th-place in the FAU Spring Championship at Osprey Point Golf Club in Boca Raton, Florida over the weekend.

Murray State sophomore Austin Knight, from Hopkinsville, Kentucky, and freshman Connor Coombs, from Central City, Kentucky, led the way in round one for the Racers, each shooting 71 and sharing 18th-place.

Knight and Coombs followed up their first day 1-under-par performances with par rounds, finishing the second round in 17th-place. After day two, the Racers were tied for ninth-place after shooting a team score of 581. Junior Lance Davis, from Mayfield, Kentucky, shot a 72 on Saturday, moving him up 37 spots into 28th-place.

Knight was the highest placing Racer on Sunday, scoring a 73 in round three and earning a share of 27th-place. Coombs took home a share of 50th-place while sophomore Justin Wendling, from Lithia, Florida tied for 73rd.

The Racers shot well through two rounds, but failed to place inside the top 10 after falling four spots on day three, scoring a 300.

Head Coach Eddie Hunt liked his team’s performance but still wishes for more consistency.

“We had a good first two rounds,” Hunt said. “But we just had a hard time putting three rounds together.”

Hunt is also looking forward to having sophomore Avery Edwards from Paducah, Kentucky back after missing the last two tournaments.

“He’s taking some treatment and were just trying to get him well for the OVC which is coming up in the end of April,” said Hunt.

Murray State is back in action April 9 in the Big Blue Intercollegiate at Hermitage Golf Club in Nashville, Tennessee.
