Born in the U.S.A: If Mitt Romney were Santa Claus. . .

The Democratic National Convention opened yesterday not with a whimper, but with a bang.

Charlotte, N.C. has never hosted the DNC before, nor has it hosted a national convention for the Republican Party. There were a lot of feathers ruffled when Charlotte was chosen over potential cities like St. Louis (especially among the Democrats’ strongest allies, the labor movement – Charlotte doesn’t even have a single union hotel), but with the convention on and the speakers rising to the occasion, Charlotte is shaping up to be one of the best Democratic conventions in recent history.

Maybe its a bit premature to say that, but I don’t think so. Last night we saw a great series of speakers.

My favorite one to take the mic wasn’t a prime time speaker, but he was a darn good one. The former Governor of Ohio, Ted Strickland, gave a rousing speech attacking Gov. Romney’s record in the private sector. One line that I thought was too great not to include in this post comes from Gov. Strickland’s speech, “If Romney were Santa Claus, he would fire the reindeer and outsource the elves.”

I think that about sums up how I feel going into November.
