Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its lodge on Oct. 12.
The event will kick off at 11 a.m. with a ceremony featuring Parks Commissioner Elaine Walker and Marshall County Judge-Executive Mike Miller. There will also be entertainment and a memory board for those with photos and recollections of 1962. The Harbor Lights Restaurant will offer lunch for $6.20 a person with 62-cent drinks.
Later that day, the park will host a Kentucky Chautauqua performance by David Hurt as Louis “Grandpa” Jones. He was a singer, a banjo picker, a songwriter and, in his later years, a television star during a career that spanned more than 60 years. The program starts at 4 p.m.
Kentucky Chautauqua is a program of the Kentucky Humanities Council.
As part of the 50th anniversary celebration, Kentucky Dam Village will host a pig roast barbeque on Oct. 28 as a fundraising event for the Marshall County Arts Commission. The event will be from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $10 per person, with proceeds to go to the Marshall County Arts Commission for its plans to build a children’s art activity center.
Live music will be provided by Joshua Earl Tubbs, a singer and songwriter from Olive, Ky., who lives in Benton, Ky.
During October, the park is offering rooms at the Village Inn Lodge for $62 plus tax a night. Special cottage rates are also available.
