Pride celebrations are back after being put on pause by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Murray will be hosting a pride parade and picnic, on June 26 in honor of Pride month. All members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies are welcome to celebrate Pride.

This year marks the sixth anniversary of marriage equality in the United States. Murray and Calloway County’s first pride event was held in 2019.

The march starts at 4 p.m. on the corner of 15th and Olive Street and ends at Chestnut Park on Payne Street.

The picnic will be held at Chestnut Park and will conclude until 8 p.m.

Participants should consider bringing a chair or blanket for the festivities. Some food and drinks may be available at the event, but guests may also want to plan on bringing a snack for the picnic.

This event will follow CDC guidelines for large outdoor events. Masks, hand sanitizer and gloves will be available for those who want them.

Parking for the event will be at Chestnut Park, and rides will be coordinated to drop participants at the start of the parade.

Support for the event comes from Murray-Calloway County Parks and Recreation, the Murray Art Guild, West KY NOW, the New South Arts Initiative and community members. Funds will be raised through donations to support the local LGBTQ+ youth organizations. Donations can be made by contacting [email protected]. Murray KY Pride is also raising funds by selling shirts at bonfire.com.
