New undergraduate program offered

One of the newest Bachelor of Science programs to be offered on the Murray State campus is community health. This program is housed in the Department of Applied Health Sciences, in the College of Health Sciences and Human Services.

The program requires students to take a core of health education courses providing a professional foundation knowledge base; covering the seven areas of responsibility of a health educator. Students also are required to select one of three tracks of specialization: gerontology, nonprofit leadership and healthcare administration.

Pleban said the program is designed to prepare students to gain employment as a community-based health educator, assisting individuals and communities in promoting health and preventing disease.

The program is also designed to prepare students to pass the certified health education specialist examination.
