Love leads Racers at Grand Valley State Big Meet

Murray State All-American Alexis Love had a big meet over the weekend for the Racers at the Grand Valley State Big Meet. Love took home the 400 meter dash title, placed second in the 200 meters and third in the 60 dash at the event.

In the 400, Love set a new career-best in the event, running a time of 56.27. Love’s big day wasn’t done there however. In the 200 she set a new season-best with a time of 24.06. Love would follow that up by tying a season-best in the 60 meters, running a time of 7.56 in the finals.

Love also anchored the 4×400 meter relay team that set a new season-best for the Racers and finished in the third place. Joining Love on the team was LaShea Shaw, Sharda Bettis and Natalie Pattin.

Tonia Pratt also had a solid meet for MSU in Allendale. Pratt took home a pair of sixth-place finishes at the meet in the shot put and weight throw by setting new PR’s in both. Pratt had a toss of 45′-6.5” in the shot put and 60′-5.25” in the weight throw.

Katie Forshey set a new season-high in the high jump at the meet and took home second place with a leap of 5′-5”. Ashley Conway placed eighth in the event for the Racers with a jump of 5′-3″.

LaShea Shaw set a pair of new PR’s at GVSU over the weekend. Shaw ran a career-best time of 8.68 in the 60-meter hurdles and took home sixth place. In the 200 meter dash, Shaw ran a time of 25.71 and finished ninth.

Emma Gilmore and Pattin also took home top ten finishes to go along with PR’s on the day. Gilmore placed 10th in the 800 and ran a career-best time of 2:18.60. Pattin’s came in the 600 where she ran a time of 1:37.64.

This was the Racers’ final tune-up before they compete at the OVC Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-23.
