Email spam sent to students

At 3:11 a.m. Tuesday, an email was sent to several students requesting personal information. The email is a hoax and was not sent out by Murray State administrators. The email was sent by [email protected].

The scam, featured below, could become a real problem because the hackers can get a students private financial and academic information.

This is to notify the entire student of the University that we would
be upgrading our server, we would like you to send the following
information, in order to keep your account still active after the
upgrade.
(1)Username:
(2)Password:
Thank you.
From the Administrator,
MURRAY STATE UNIVERSITY.

Administrators have said no official email from the University would ask for your password.

If a student responds to the email, they are encouraged to call the Helpdesk at 809-2346 and if possible to change their email password immediately.
