Murray State sophomore Ella Scherer recorded her second top-10 finish of the year after finishing sixth in the Chris Banister Classic at the Silver Springs Golf Course in Oneonta, Alabama.
The Racers found themselves in third place on the first day of the classic after carding a score of 313. Freshman Elin Tynan finished 3-over-par and Scherer finished 6-over-par to lead the Racers going into day two.
Rain on the morning of Monday, March 10 made the course more difficult, as the Racers added four more shots than they had on day one. Murray State finished with 317 on day two to set them back into fourth place.
Murray State finished the final day of the classic with a score of 314. The Racers’ 313-317-314=944 finish earned them fifth place, as they were three strokes behind fourth place and 21 strokes behind first place.
Scherer finished 78-77-77=232 (+16) which earned her a sixth-place finish. Graduate student Eliza Mae Kho finished 80-79-77=236 (+20) to earn her fifteenth place in the classic.
Murray State’s next appearance will be when they travel to Johns Creek, Georgia to compete in the Georgia State Invitational on Monday, March 24 and Tuesday, March 25 at the Rivermont Country Club.
