When Murray State students return in August, they will a number of new places to dine including Chick-Fil-A, Starbucks, Einstein Bros. Bagels and now Cold Stone Creamery and Planet Smoothie will join the list.
Located at Olive Plaza next to Murray Donuts and Cricket Wireless, the national ice cream chain is currently under construction.
The home of the “finest, freshest ice cream, cakes, smoothies and shakes’’ has already proven to be a fan favorite, as many people have gone to social media and have even talked to the workers on the construction site to express their excitement about the opening.
Cold Stone has been co-branding its locations with other chains since 2008 and the new Murray location will also include a Planet Smoothie.
Construction superintendent Sam Wilcox is expecting a quick opening.
“What we call the ‘soft-opening’ will be on July 15 so we can get the inventory inside the store and make sure everything is working properly,” Wilcox said. “Expect the grand opening to be some time in August.”
Murray State junior Brock Tonazzi thinks the new ice cream shop will be a big success amongst Murray and its college students.
“I love Cold Stone,” Tonazzi said. “It’s literally my favorite ice cream place. I’m sure it’ll be somewhere my friends and I visit a lot.”
