The Kentucky Department of Transportation Cabinet will make an announcement about the Kentucky Interstate 69 Corridor Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Southside Elementary School on Hopkinsville Road in Nortonville.
Sources say in addition to Gov. Steve Beshear, speakers will include Victor Mendez of the Federal Highway Administration, Jody Wassmer with the Chamber Leadership Initiatives of Northwestern Kentucky and Bruce Akin, head of the West Kentucky Regional Chamber Alliance.
Keith Todd, KCTC public information officer, said the announcement will be a significant advancement to the federal interstate, which winds its way northward through Kentucky on existing and previously acting toll roads. The interstate’s 17-mile overlap through I-24 and 38-mile stretch through the Wendell H. Ford Western Kentucky Parkway was highlighted in statewide news in August following the announcement that those sections would be formally annexed by the federal interstate through signage coming this fall.
At the time of that announcement, the governor said the state would begin construction bids to make necessary upgrades on those corridors, reaching the national standard the Federal Highway Administration dictates.
There has been no word from the KCTC as to whether tomorrow’s announcement will address those bids.
