After three seasons with Southern Alabama, sophomore quarterback C.J. Bennett is transferring to Murray State.
The 6-foot, 205-pound quarterback is expected to be eligible to play next season. He has two years of eligibility remaining after playing as redshirted freshman for Southern Alabama.
Bennett, from Tampa, Fla., started in the first three games of the season for the Jaguars and has seen action in six of the 13 games. He was 55 of 102 in passing and had four touchdowns.
During his career at Southern Alabama he threw for 3,409 yards and 20 touchdowns. He completed 270 of 477 passes and rushed for 370 yards and five scores.
“I came to South knowing I was going to get a chance to play early,” Bennett said Friday in an interview. “I had my ups and downs this year and me and Ross battled. He’s got another year of football and I’ve got two. I just decided this was the best thing for me.”
