Court Appointed Special Advocates for children of Calloway and Marshall counties is letting the community decide which is better, zombies or superheros for their Fun Walk/Run and Chili Challenge on Oct. 27.
Community members of the two counties can pick which side they are joining, zombies or superheros, and dress up for the event. Participants will walk or run along the Kentucky Dam and may partake in the second annual Chili Challenge following the Walk/Run.
Registration for the Fun Walk/Run begins at 10 a.m. on Oct. 27 at Kentucky Dam Village Beach parking lot. For individuals, the registration fee is $7 in advance and $10 at the event. For groups of four, registration costs $25 in advance or $35 at the event. For groups of more than four, discounts are available by calling 270-761-0164.
The Fun Walk/Run is approximately three miles long. It officially starts at 11 a.m.
There will be prizes given for the scariest costume, most creative costume, cutest costume, all-around best costume, best group and a team spirit award.
The Chili Challenge will follow the Walk/Run at 12 p.m. in the Kentucky Dam Village Lakeview Pavillion Participants may sample chili from local teams and pick their favorites. CASA suggests a $5 donation per bowl. Each $5 donation receives one “Crowd Favorite” vote. Additional “Crowd Favorite” votes are $1.
To compete in the Chili Challenge, teams should make 1 to 2 pots of chili in advance. Each participating team receives a table to decorate based on the theme, Zombies vs. Superheros. Set-up for the Chili Challenge begins at 10 a.m. A registration fee of $25 for each team participating is due by Oct. 19. Winners of the challenge will be based on Crowd Favorite, All-Around Champion and the Best Booth.
