Murray State’s football team wrapped up its home season on Saturday, Nov. 9, with a Senior Day matchup against Missouri State, ultimately falling 59-31 in a hard-fought game at Roy Stewart Stadium. The Racers recognized 20 seniors in their final home game, bringing both celebratory and competitive energy to the field.
Kicker James London provided an early spark for the Racers, drilling a 50-yard field goal in the first quarter – his sixth career field goal from 50 yards or more. London went on to add two more field goals, including a 52-yarder, bringing his career total to seven field goals of 50+ yards.
Quarterback Jayden Johannsen and receiver Kade Neely connected in the second quarter for the Racers’ first touchdown on a three-yard pass, narrowing Missouri State’s early lead to 28-17.
In a standout play during the third quarter, running back Jawaun Northington executed a jump pass to tight end Caden Jumper, keeping Murray State within striking distance. Johannsen had a productive day under center, completing 21 of 34 passes for 249 yards, and scoring both a passing and rushing touchdown. Northington led the ground game with 86 yards on four carries, averaging an impressive 21.5 yards per attempt.
Murray State made several plays but struggled to contain Missouri State’s offense. Davon Martin provided a highlight with an interception, while Amari Wansley led the defense with seven tackles. The Racers also tallied three sacks, with Tyson Meiguez, Dennard Flowers and Dareon Goodrum each recording quarterback takedowns.
The offense of Murray State played well despite the defeat. However, Missouri State’s offensive ability outscored the Racers, who were unable to keep up with the Bears’ powerful offense. In their final home game of the season, the Racers bid farewell to their seniors, but ultimately fell short with a 59-31 defeat.
Looking ahead, Murray State will face a challenging away game on Saturday, Nov. 16, against the University of Kentucky Wildcats at Kroger Field in Lexington, Kentucky.
