After another election, one ordered special from the Student Government Association’s Judicial Board, Ali Khatib was elected again for SGA president.
This came after nearly a month of election challenges, alleged instruction from former SGA advisor Jeanie Morgan and State Rep. JT Payne R-11, and a lawsuit facing Murray State president Bob Jackson.
The two-time president-elect’s victory was announced by Nate Hunt, election ways and means director. He said in this special election there were 6,992 eligible voters, of which 1,733 participated.
“About a 24.78% turnout,” Hunt said. “Which is a lot better than it was last time.”
As for the official results, Hunt started with the vice president of finance. Silas Jackson received 799 votes (48% of the vote), while Cameron Wright received 872 (52%).
Cameron Wright, again, has been elected vice president of finance.
For vice president of administration, Hunt said Levi Lucas received 743 votes (45%), while Maggie White received 923 (55%).
Maggie White, again, has been elected vice president of administration.
For executive vice president, Hunt said Raeya Burton received 769 votes (46%), while Brooklyn Williams received 894 (54%).
Brooklyn Williams, again, has been elected executive vice president.
Hunt then announced the results of SGA president and student regent.
“Now, finally, is the president position,” Hunt said. “The winning candidate got 867 votes, 51% of the votes. The other candidate got 838.”
Nate Hunt announced Ali Khatib as the winning candidate over Brendan Hawkins.
After the SGA meeting adjourned, Khatib said the lawsuit will still be pursued.
“Everything is still ongoing,” Khatib said. “I was still wronged.”
The lawsuit is going to be heard at the Calloway County Circuit Court on April 24.
