The Murray State soccer team will travel to Morehead, Kentucky to take on Morehead State for their season opener on Tuesday, March 2.
The Racers last faced the Eagles on Oct. 4, 2019, at Morehead State. Goals from graduate Miyah Watford and senior Izzy Heckman led the Racers to a 2-1 win.
Murray State has not played a game since Nov. 8, 2019, so they are ready to get back on the field.
The Racers finished their previous season with a winning record of 11-8 and 8-2 in the OVC. The Eagles, however, finished out their 2019 season with a 4-12-2 record overall and 2-6-2 in the OVC.
“We were able to use all this time we’ve had to get everyone in the weight room so I think we benefited heavily from the time off,” said Head Coach Matt Lodge. “It has been frustrating not being able to play games but I think it has made them hungry.”
Lodge said the team has spent the spring semester focusing on the tactical side of the sport and preparing for their conference games while aiming to win the championship.
The team is most looking forward to getting back on the field for regular season competition.
“Once game day comes they will all get those butterflies with game day back and they’re going to be excited,” Lodge said. “We have some great athletes and soccer players this year so I’m excited to see that all blend together.”
The team will kick off at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2.
