The Racers dropped their second game of the season, 3-1 when they traveled to Highland Heights to face Northern Kentucky.
The Norse would strike early in the 3rd minute of the game when senior forward Shawna Zaken got in behind the Racers back line.
Zaken would add another in the to the talley in the 18th minute to double their lead over the OVC champions.
Murray State nearly struck back in the 38th minute when sophomore forward Abby Jones hit the corner of the woodwork off a set piece from sophomore defender Joeselle Morche.
Despite the two goal lead for the Norse, Northern Kentucky had one less shot than the Racers did for the half.
Six minutes into the second half senior midfielder Miyah Watford would cut the deficit in half for the Racers to just one after finishing a cross from junior forward Rebecca Kubin, her first assist on the season.
Things were looking up for Murray State as they were applying more pressure, until the only shot from the Norse in the second half found its way past freshman keeper Jenna Villacres to take the game to 3-1.
The Racers wouldn’t score another goal in the outing, however Murray State outshot the Norse 11-1 in the second half.
Head coach Matt Lodge was upset with the final results of the game after putting together a string of solid outings.
“I think that it is really disappointing when you put three games together like we have,” said Lodge. “Then we turn around and perform like that against Northern, it is just really disappointing. I know we have a great team because we have shown it.”
The Racers will be traveling Columbia, MO to face the University of Missouri this Thursday Sept. 5 at 7 pm.
