Murray State special teams made a clean sweep of their respective Preseason All-OVC team selections as senior Kicker Gabriel Vicente, senior punter Steve Dawson and senior return specialist Malik Honeycutt were given the honors for the 2019 season.
Vicente was named to last year’s All-OVC first team. He also connected on 15-of-19 attempted field goals and was 34-for-36 on PAT attempts.
During the last game of the season Vicente connected on a 50-yard field goal at Austin Peay, making it his second 50-plus made attempt of his career. His first made 50-yard field goal came in 2017 against Southeast Missouri State.
Dawson played rugby league football most of his career in Wagga Wagga, Australia and began playing American football last year.
In his first season, Dawson led the OVC with 42.1 yards per punt and was named to the All-OVC first-team and the Freshman All-America second team by Phil Steele Magazine.
Malik Honeycutt was named to the HEROSports First Team All-Preseason Team earlier this year and was also named first-team special teams All-American by HEROSports last year.
The Tallahassee, Florida native left his mark in Racer history with the ‘Miracle in Murray’ on Nov. 10, when he ran 79 yards for a game-winning touchdown on a kick return with 20 seconds left against No. 19 Southeast Missouri State.
The season kicks off on Thursday, August 29 at 6 p.m. when the Racers take on the University of Pikeville at Stewart Stadium.
