The Racers came up short against the Ole Miss Rebels as they lost 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday.
Ole Miss started out the game with a bang as they were able to score in the second minute of the game, when Gretchen Harknett, junior from Memphis, Tennessee, was able to receive the pass and put it right past freshman goalkeeper Alex Steigerwald from West Chester, Ohio.
After the goal Steigerwald settled in, finished up the game with nine saves. Ole Miss dominated the possession in the first half and were able to create chances, but could not capitalize as the Rebels outshot the Racers in the first half 11-2.
In the second half the Racers were able to control the ball a little more, but were not able to create or capitalize on opportunities. The Rebels outshot the Racers 22-4 during the game, but could only score one goal.
Harriet Withers, sophomore from Murwillumbah, Austrailia, led the Racers with two shots as three other racers players were credited with one shot.
Ole Miss moves to 14-5-2 on the season and will go onto play the winner of Furman vs. Clemson on Nov. 22. As for the Racers they fall to 16-5 on the year and have been knocked out of the tournament.
