As the hit show “The Amazing Race” begins its 20th season, the city of Murray is about to get an amazing race of its own.
Maneuver Murray is coming to town on April 28, and promises to be an event full of all around fun. Like “The Amazing Race,” Maneuver Murray plans to challenge contestants both mentally and physically, along with testing their knowledge of the entire city, all to see who can be first across the finish line with the tasks successfully completed.
In the style of the hit television show, contestants will be in groups of two, three or four. Teams of two will pay $40 to register and teams of three or four will pay $60 to register. By registering, each team not only gets to compete, but also recieves a Maneuver Murray T-shirt and a swag bag with other gifts.
Proceeds put into the registration process go to the Wesley Foundation. The funds will be used to help the organization go on multiple mission trips to areas like Alabama that have been severely damaged by tornadoes. Other projects will also benefit from the proceeds from the event.
Teams will be faced with a packet of 12 clues which will lead them all around Murray starting at 11 a.m. on race day. The starting line is located at the Wesley Foundation on 1315 Payne Street. Teams have until 2 p.m. to complete at least 11 of the 12 clues successfully to receive a finished status and be in the running for the grand prize of $200. Also, the winning team gets its registration fee back. Contestants placing in second will receive a prize of $100.
Winning the race isn’t the only way to get a prize. Prizes will also be given away for the best sorority team, the best fraternity team, best costumed team and even the oldest team.
“We want to make sure everyone involved has a really great time and knows that they helped so many people just by participating, regardless if they win or not.” Maddie Mucci, fundraising chair and freshman from Nolensville, Tenn., said.
Maneuver Murray isn’t just for students; it is a citywide event open to any resident of Murray, hence the oldest team prize. They’re not talking about seniors in college.
“It’s a great way to bring together the college students, the high school students and all of the community as a whole,” Mucci said. “I think this will give the community a chance to grow deeper.”
Overall, Maneuver Murray plans to bring the community together, giving everyone involved a great dose of physical exercise, an equal dose of mental tests and all around fun, not to mention all proceeds go toward helping people in need.
