It was a big weekend for Murray State football players as two seniors signed contracts with NFL teams, while a third was invited to a team’s rookie mini-camp.
Senior offensive lineman Roderick Tomlin signed as an undrafted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Tomlin will join former Racer football great Austen Lane, who was drafted by the Jaguars in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
Tomlin has been the anchor of the Murray State offensive line for the past three seasons, starting every game since 2010.
Soon after the news of Tomlin’s signing, senior quarterback Casey Brockman received an invitation to the Seattle Seahawks’ rookie mini-camp. If offered a contract, Brockman will join the Seahawks’ west coast style of offense, which resembles that of the ‘Hatch Attack’ style Brockman has run over the last three years at Murray State.
Brockman leaves Murray State as the OVC’s all-time leader in total offense, racking up over 10,000 total career offensive yards.
Senior receiver Dontel Watkins will also get a chance in the NFL, returning to his hometown of Nashville to sign with the Tennessee Titans. Watkins was Murray State’s second leading receiver in 2012, catching 39 passes for 561 yards and five touchdowns.
Brockman will compete for an invitation to the Seahawks training camp, while the other two will enter their teams’ respective camps fighting for roster spots for the upcoming NFL season.
