The New York Times reported the Trump Administration had “walked back” their cancellation of more than 1,500 student visas. According to National Public Radio, this was the result of a court hearing in Washington D.C., after hundreds of lawsuits were filed by international students.
That means these visas are restored—for now.
The Times’ source, Joseph F. Carilli, Justice Department lawyer, said immigration officials are working on a new review and termination system for international students. Carilli also said there would be no more changes or further revocations until the new system was complete.
Earlier in April, a Murray State international student’s visa was revoked, leading to the University sending out emails regarding if Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were on campus.
After the Times and NPR reported the “walk back” announced by the Trump Administration, The Murray State News reached out to Bill McKibben, director of international retention and scholar services, if the Murray State student is included in the “walk back” involving 1,500 students.
McKibben said the student is included in the “walk back.”
